Bios update failed and now my computer won't work. I tried the windows+b and there are 9 beeps. The computer worked perfectly before this update. Any ideas as to what I can do. HP doesn't want to help me and this is their update!

Hi:

Your PC is one of those with the MonkD motherboard where many folks are having that issue.

Your PC's motherboard is the same one as in this discussion (MonkD), so you need to make a BIOS recovery drive with the F.41 BIOS update file and not the latest two that HP has.

See the last reply by Harinder_Singh:

"Thanks Paul, but this file seems to have errors...sp145453 and sp143666, Unable to make USB recovery flash drive, that's why when these updates are coming and people getting them installed are getting stuck in a BIOS update fail loop. Hence, on the basis of my exploitation SP141980 was fine, with this i was able to create BIOS recovery flash drive and finally restored BIOS and break the loop of BIOS update fail."

The first link below explains how to create a BIOS recovery flash drive.

I've already provided the BIOS file you need, which is good for either W10 or W11.

First, try the instructions that show up on the program after you make the USB BIOS recovery drive for how to recover the BIOS.

Here's an alternative way to recover the BIOS with the USB recovery drive if the above method doesn't work.

Last section.  There is a video at the very bottom of the page that describes how to do this on a notebook PC, and since it is included under the desktop link, perhaps it works the same way.

FWIW, I have never seen such a large amount of folks whose PC's have been bricked by this one BIOS update.

There's had to have been 20 or more posts about this problem with the MonkD motherboard and the last BIOS update.

Thank you so much for answering my question! I may have done something wrong because it did not fix the loop. I turned off the computer and inserted the flash drive with the bios recovery. Pressed windows+b and power. Held w+b until 8 beeps then the computer started the recovery. Did I do something wrong?

You're very welcome.

Ove the course of the last week, I found that all you need to do is this...

After you create the USB BIOS recovery drive, follow the instructions that show up after the USB recovery drive has been successfully created.

1. Power off the device to be recovered.

2. Insert the USB flash drive into a USB port.

3. Power on the device.

4. The device may reboot up to 3 times with indicator lights on the keyboard flashing, or the screen appearing blank for short time.

Hopefully, that will fix the problem for you, as it did in the discussion below.

Unfortunately it didn't work. I'm at a loss as to what to do. HP has no idea how to even help me. They referred me to Microsoft stating it was a software issue. How can HP create an update that makes the computer unusable? It's a new computer.  I just don't get it.

Sorry, that didn't work for you.

Since I don't work for or represent HP, I wouldn't know what their plans are, but I would also be very upset if an update came out of the blue and wrecked my PC.

We're not talking about one or two people.  We are talking about many, and it seems to me that anyone who lets that update install is going to be in for trouble.

The thing I don't understand is how Microsoft got the update to send to those of you that have that model series PC with that BIOS.

I would have thought that the update would have to be sent to Microsoft from HP, but I don't know for sure.

You may want to call/write the HP corporate office about this (I don't believe that there's anyway to contact them otherwise).
