If your PC is asking for a BitLocker recovery key, the key is usually stored in one of these places:

  • Your Microsoft account

  • A work/school Azure AD account

  • A printed or saved recovery key file

  • An IT administrator account (for company devices)

First, try checking Microsoft’s recovery portal:

https://account.microsoft.com/devices/recoverykey

If you do not remember the email account used, try:

  • all personal Microsoft emails you may have used

  • old Outlook/Hotmail/Live accounts

  • work or school email accounts

  • family member accounts if someone helped set up the PC

You can also identify the correct account by comparing the “Key ID” shown on the BitLocker recovery screen with the recovery keys listed in the Microsoft account portal.

Unfortunately, without the recovery key, Microsoft does not provide a bypass method for BitLocker encryption. The only remaining option may be resetting/reinstalling Windows, which removes the encrypted data.
