My all in one HP 23-q105na starts as normal but after standing idle for a period of time the screen goes black and then nothing can be done apart from switching off and re starting. Any ideas??

Windows has a "power" setting to "dim" the monitor after a user-selected number of minutes of inactivity.

This setting defaults to 10 minutes.

Just press the SHIFT key on your keyboard, or wiggle the mouse, to "wake" the monitor.

Hi

When did this symptom start happening? This is a key element in determining the cause of this problem.

I can't locate your product number.

This LINK will help you to find the correct product number.

Forum members can help you solve a problem when they can review your PC's specifications.

Many variables are in play which will make it harder to determine your specific problem.

You should not have to do a hard reset to get back into the operating system. This  suggests the PC is freezing. It could be a driver problem. Your PC may have updated to the Fall Creator's Update. Incompatible graphics card drivers can cause this problem. It could be caused by other incompatible drivers.

Again, the cause is indeterminate at this point in time.

This response to your problem will not immediately solve it. But it is a step in the right direction.

Your '105' is a member of the '100' family.

Windows may be configured to put the computer to "sleep" after 30 minutes.

You may change the duration, or disable this setting.

Just make a quick "tap" of the ON/OFF button to "wake" it.

Thanks, but it doesnt matter what I do, moving the mouse, touching start button, it's just not responding. Ocassionally the screen may flicker. It starts up as normal and works ok, till left, then goes blank.

Check the "power" settings.

Windows may be configured to "blank" the screen (to reduce electrical consumption) after 10 minutes of inactivity,

and then to completely "sleep" the computer after 30 minutes of inactivity.

What are the settings on your system?

Iv changed the settings to NEVER on screen sleep....seems to have stopped the problem. Ill get into the habit of shutting down after use rather than leaving idle

I had a similar issue with HP Probook 450 G4. For me it worked to disable power management on SATA link, from IRST settings.
