HP Spectre Notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
My laptop used to give me the option to connect to Bluetooth but the icon was gone so I asked “Cortana” to turn on Bluetooth for me and it did so I just figured there was a glitch as to why the Bluetooth icon was gone. That was maybe a couple months ago, the icon is still gone and when I asked my laptop to turn Bluetooth on, it complied but then said it couldn’t because my device doesn’t support it. I figured maybe there was an update I needed to get done, so I checked and it said I was up to date. So now I would just like to know why my laptop is able to do LESS than it could when I bought it. Thanks.

MS had issued a patch  that fixed it for some machines. Third one in the list. Install it and restart your laptop:

http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB4090913

----------------------------------------------

If the MS patch doesn't work-use this process>

1. Download and save  latest set of drivers and software for your adapter:
    1. Wireless: WiFi_20.10.2_PROSet64_Win10.exe
    2. Bluetooth®: BT_20.0.0_64_Win10.exe
2. Under Programs and Features in the Control Panel, uninstall any instance of the "Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software" and "Intel® Wireless Bluetooth®." When prompted, choose to "discard settings."
3. Uninstall your device drivers from Device Manager:
    1. Network Adapters > Right click on your Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless and uninstall it. Make sure to select the option to "Delete the driver software for this device."
    2. Bluetooth® > Right click on your Intel(R) Wireless Bluetooth(R) and uninstall it. Make sure to select the option to "Delete the driver software for this device" if allowed.
4. Clear out your temporary files: Press the Windows* Key + R to open the run box. Type Cleanmgr.exe and press OK. Here you will need to make sure Temporary Files are checked, you may uncheck everything else then press OK.
5. Install the Intel® Wireless and Bluetooth® packages that you downloaded back in step one.
6. Reboot your system.

Thanks so much!

The MS patch didn't work so I used your second solution. While it took quite a bit of time to do, (because I am not a tech genius haha) I followed each step and after I restarted my computer I saw that the Bluetooth icon was back and I tried to connect it to my speakers and it worked like normal!

I just hope this isn't a recurring problem and have to redo this in like 6 more months.

Thank you 🙂

@AutumnR

You're very welcome. Great to hear all is working now! Thanks for taking time to post back with results. Hopefully it will last but Microsoft has yet another big update headed our way -Spring Creators Update. I really wish MS would let us opt for just security updates and forego all of these new editions but doesn't seem to be possible. I miss Windows 7.:smileyvery-happy:
