Hi @Warrensdtt

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand the situation you are facing. The “Boot Device Not Found” message indicates that the computer is unable to detect a valid operating system from the hard drive. Let’s go through recommended steps to address this.

Perform a Hard Reset

This clears temporary memory and reinitializes hardware connections.

Power off the computer completely

Disconnect power adapter and remove the battery if removable

Hold the power button for 15 seconds

Reconnect power and turn on the computer

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

Most Common Fix

HP diagnostics can check if the hard drive is being detected properly.

Turn on the computer → Immediately press F2 repeatedly

Select System Tests → Hard Drive Test

Allow the test to complete and note any results

Verify Boot Order in BIOS

Ensures the hard drive is set as the primary boot device.

Turn on the computer → Immediately press F10 repeatedly

In BIOS, go to Storage → Boot Order

Confirm the internal hard drive is listed first

Save changes and exit

Restore BIOS Defaults

Resets BIOS settings to factory defaults which can resolve misconfigurations.

In BIOS, press F9 → Yes

After restoring defaults, press F10 → Save and Exit

Use HP App Diagnose & Fix

HP App provides guided troubleshooting and repair options.

On another working computer, install the HP App

Create a recovery USB if needed

Boot your computer from the recovery USB and run Diagnose & Fix

Perform System Recovery

Last Resort

If diagnostics confirm the hard drive is functional but no OS is found, reinstall Windows.

Use HP Recovery Media or Windows installation media

Boot from the USB/DVD

Follow on-screen instructions to reinstall the operating system

These steps should help bring your system back to a working state. Start with the hard reset and diagnostics, then proceed step by step. If the hard drive passes diagnostics but the error persists, recovery or reinstalling Windows will be necessary.
