I installed Linux mint on my Hp 18 All-in-one (I know my PC is outdated), and forgot I installed it in legacy mode instead of UEFI. When I turned on secure boot and exited BIOS setup, Linux mint didn't boot and it was just a HP logo. I tried to reinstall Linux mint by going into startup menu then going into USB boot menu, but pressing escape did nothing after getting into the menu that had most of my system info. I tried using windows + B keys at startup and it did 8 beeps and turned off. I pressed the power button and it did nothing. I did a hard power reset and I'm back to Linux mint not booting, but it turned on. I don't want to open up my PC. Can anyone help?

Hi:
I don't know much about Linux, but don't you have to install it in Legacy mode?
When you installed Linux in legacy mode, the hard drive is formatted with the MBR partition table.
When you enabled Secure boot, secure boot only works when the drive is formatted with the GPT partition table which can only be done in UEFI mode in order for the PC to boot up.
You should have been able to go into the BIOS, disable secure boot and then the PC should have started up again.
The product specs indicate that the PC came with W8.1 64 bit from HP.

You can install Windows in UEFI mode but what I recommend is to leave legacy mode enabled and there should be two sets of boot options in the F9 boot options menu..Legacy and UEFI.
To install Windows in UEFI mode, you boot the W8.1 installation USB flash drive from the UEFI USB boot source.

You should be able to get into the BIOS by restarting the PC, press/tap the ESC key to get the menu of options, then select the F10 setup option, then disable secure boot.
If you can't, something happened that I wouldn't be able to help you with.
You may have to remove the CMOS battery and see if that resets things, but you will have to open up the PC to do that and I can't find a service manual for that PC.
