HP p7-1010
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I want to change the boot order to boot from a USB (flash drive jump drive or whatever you want to call it) so I can get rid of Windows 7 and move to a Linux distro.  I have found some HP "generic" instructions which say it differs from computer to computer but I want to know EXACTLY what to do.  For example, some say that I should start by pressing ESC, which says  "Boot Menu" on my computer, upon start up, but some say to press F10, which says "Set up" on my computer which is a HP p7-1010.   And what do I do then?  On all the "generic" instructions, all I get is that it might be this and it might be that.  How and what do I do on the HP p7-1010?  Any help would be appreciated and can you please explain it in layman's terms without all the computer jargon.  Oh, yes.  One more thing.  Oftentimes, I have found that when someone gives directions, there is a step or two that is left out.  It seems that it is assumed that I would know the missing steps since they were so obvious.  They are not.    As you can tell, I am a little frustrated.  I apologize for the tone of my question.

Hi:

You don't need to change the boot order to boot from a USB flash drive, or any other drive for that matter.

If all you want to do is boot from the Linux installation flash drive, have the USB flash drive in the PC, turn it on or restart it.

Immediately tap the ESC key at the beginning of the HP welcome screen to get the menu of options.

Select the F9 boot options menu, and from that, select the USB flash drive and press the Enter key.

The PC should then boot from the USB flash drive.
