Hi I am having trouble booting up my omen lab top. It is getting a boot up error Error Code: 0xc0000098. I have tried everything include command prompt and I can’t get it to work. There is no reset option or I would just do that. Is there anyway to fix this

Hi @5Ayden,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Error code 0xc0000098 typically indicates a problem with the Windows Boot Manager. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and fix the issue.

  • Boot into Safe Mode: Try booting into Safe Mode by pressing F8 or Shift+F8 during the boot process. If you are able to boot into Safe Mode, you may be able to resolve the issue by running a system restore, updating drivers, or running a virus scan.
  • Use Automatic Repair: If you are unable to boot into Safe Mode, you can try using Automatic Repair. This feature is built into Windows and can help to fix common boot issues. To use Automatic Repair, insert your Windows installation media (such as a USB or DVD) and select "Repair your computer" on the installation screen. From there, select "Troubleshoot" > "Advanced options" > "Startup Repair" and follow the prompts.
  • Rebuild the BCD: If Automatic Repair is unable to fix the issue, you can try rebuilding the BCD (Boot Configuration Data). To do this, boot into the Windows installation media and select "Command Prompt" from the "Advanced options" screen. Then, run the following commands:
  • bootrec /fixmbr bootrec /fixboot bootrec /rebuildbcd
  • After running these commands, restart your computer and see if the issue is resolved.
  • Reinstall Windows: If none of the above steps work, you may need to reinstall Windows. This will erase all of your data, so be sure to back up any important files before proceeding. To reinstall Windows, boot from your installation media and follow the prompts to perform a clean install.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions

Take care and have a good day.

The command prompt didn’t work for me. Neither did booting in safe mode. I get booted directly into the error message. When it comes to the window installation media how do I get one of those? Can it be any flash drive?
