I downloaded a driver updater, and ran it. Shortly after, blue screen came on, listing synthetic watchdog timeout as the culprit. So, PC restarts, blue screen pops up, same error, restarts.......,.... Happened like 12 times. Now the PC is stuck on just a blue screen, making clicking sounds. Been here doing this for about an hour.

Hi @paulp6

Welcome to the HP Forum.

Free driver updater software tends to do the bad stuff what you are seeing.

I only use driver updater software on older PCs after OEM support ends and you can't get a driver from Windows Update.

I use Snappy Driver Installer (free) at this Site when I can't find a driver.

See if you can get into the Windows Recovery Environment and then Safe Mode with networking by starting the PC (three times) and shutting down using the power button before the blue screen loads. Or create W10 USB installation media on a different PC. Boot to this media and select repair this PC.

Check this Site for instructions on how to get to and use safe mode when Windows is corrupted. Look at "What to do if Windows won't start".

It would be great if you recall what component drivers you tried to update using the driver updater.

Go to Device Manager.

Then rollback these drivers or remove them and let Windows Update do it's thing. You would be in trouble if the network driver is cooked and you don't have WIFI to connect to the network.

You may have to backup data and reinstall W10 if you can't fix the problem.

Hi @paulp6

Use Snappy Driver Lite available at this Site if you ever decide to update drivers in the future.

And only update the driver for the problematic component.
