The VGA socket has a "do not use" label fitted to it. I would like to use the VGA to adjust the vertical postion of the screen. According to the Monitor User manual this can only be done via a VGA signal. When this socket is connected there is no signal at the Monitor. Any help  to activate the VGA signal would be appreciated..

Hi:

In order to use the DVI or VGA Ports that are marked 'do not use,' you would have to remove the AMD Radeon HD 5450 video card.

When a graphics card is added, the onboard graphics adapter (which uses the two ports marked 'do not use,') is disabled.

Hence the reason for your current dilemma.

My CPU has a Radeon HD 5450 card fitted. What would be the result of removing this card ?. Do I need to fit another type of display card? Thankyou for your help so far.

You're very welcome.

If you want to use the onboard graphics, you can't install any video card in the slot the Radeon card is in now.

There are some software/driver steps to take before physically removing the Radeon graphics card.

You have to go into the Windows control panel>programs>uninstall a program, and uninstall all AMD software such as the catalyst control center.

Then you have to go to the device manager, click to expand the display adapters device manager category, right click on the AMD graphics adapter listed there, select uninstall and then check the uninstall driver box.

Then you can shut down the PC, unplug it and remove the graphics card.

Hopefully, you have a spare metal blank to put in place of where the graphics card mounted to, or you will have an open space there.  I guess it is no big deal, but the large opening will introduce more dust into your PC's innards.

Then hopefully, after a couple of minutes, windows 10 will install the graphics driver for the onboard graphics, and you should be able to use the VGA port.

The onboard graphics adapter will not perform as well as the Radeon graphics adapter, so if you play video games or do video editing, you can expect the video performance to be less responsive.

Sincere thanks Paul for taking time out to provide very comprehensive answers to both my questions.

It is the first i have used a "community"  forum to assist with computer etc. type issues. I could not have wished for a better source of information. In this instance HP Support Community has been examplary. Thank you.

In regard to my queries and your responses in this matter. I have decided, on balance, that I shall retain my present video card as the quality of pictures are excellent,  and I accept that I can only see the  upper half of the date on the task bar. (my reasons for adjusting the vertical postion of the monitor  picture).
