Hello, please help me!

The CMOS checksum is invalid. The CMOS will reset to the default configuration, and the computer will restart. Afterwards, please check the BIOS setup option to see if they change.

Hi @eynush,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

The CMOS Reset (502) error typically occurs due to a corrupted BIOS, failed update, or CMOS memory issue. Since you already replaced the CR2032 battery, try the following solutions:

1. Hard Reset Your Laptop

  1. Turn off the laptop and disconnect the power cord.
  2. Remove the battery (if removable).
  3. Hold the power button for 30 seconds to discharge any residual power.
  4. Reconnect the battery & power cord, then restart.

2. Restore BIOS Defaults

  1. Turn on the laptop and immediately press F10 repeatedly to enter BIOS.
  2. Locate the Restore Defaults option (usually under Exit or Advanced settings).
  3. Select Load Setup Defaults, then Save and Exit.
  4. Restart the laptop and check if the error persists.

3. Perform a BIOS Recovery (Win + B or Win + V)

If the BIOS update was corrupted, try recovering it:

  1. Turn off the laptop and plug in the charger.
  2. Press and hold Win + B (or Win + V), then press Power.
  3. Keep holding Win + B/V for about 30–60 seconds until the screen flashes or you hear beeps.
  4. If successful, the system will attempt to reinstall the BIOS.

4. Download and Install the Correct BIOS

If your BIOS is corrupted beyond recovery, you need to flash a new BIOS firmware.

Try these methods:

Method 1: Check HP Support Page Again

  • Go to HP Software & Drivers
  • Enter your exact model number and check for BIOS updates.
  • If available, download and install the latest BIOS.

Method 2: Use HP BIOS Recovery from Another PC

If you have access to another HP PC:

  1. Download HP’s BIOS Update Utility from the HP website.
  2. Create a BIOS recovery USB drive using HP BIOS Recovery Tool.
  3. Insert the USB into your faulty PC and attempt a recovery boot.

Let me know if you need further guidance! 😊
