HOW TO do a CMOS RESET please

Hi @PalmGirl,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Performing a CMOS reset on an HP Pavilion 24-Xa All-In-One Desktop PC involves accessing the CMOS battery and temporarily removing it to reset the BIOS settings. Here's a general guide on how to do it.

Note: Before proceeding, make sure to turn off the computer and disconnect all cables. Also, be aware that opening your computer may void the warranty, so proceed at your own risk.

Power Off the Computer:

  • Shut down your computer completely.

Disconnect Power:

  • Unplug the power cable from the back of the computer.

Access the Back Panel:

  • Lay the computer down on a flat surface with the back panel facing up.

Remove the Back Cover:

  • Depending on the model, you might need to remove screws to access the back cover. Look for any screws securing the back panel and remove them.

Locate the CMOS Battery:

  • The CMOS battery is a small, coin-cell battery usually located on the motherboard. It's often secured in a holder or attached with a clip.

Remove the CMOS Battery:

  • Carefully disconnect the CMOS battery from its holder. You may need to use a small flat-head screwdriver or your fingers to unclip it.

Wait for a Few Minutes:

  • Once the CMOS battery is removed, wait for at least 5 minutes. This allows the residual charge to dissipate and ensures a complete reset.

Reinstall the CMOS Battery:

  • Place the CMOS battery back into its holder and secure it. Make sure it is properly seated.

Reattach the Back Cover:

  • Put the back cover back on and secure it with the screws if you removed any.

Reconnect Power:

  • Reconnect the power cable to the back of the computer.

Power On the Computer:

  • Turn on your computer and check if the CMOS reset resolved the issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
