My camera driver is completely gone. I have tried every solution, updating it, updating my whole laptop, even deleting it to reinstall it, which now I can't reinstall it at all. Any app I try to use my camera on tells me I don't have a camera connected. I went to the website to redownload the camera driver, only for there not to be one there either. I'm horrible with computers, and don't understand anything that's happening.

@slimeboycharlie, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.
I understand how frustrating it can be when your camera suddenly disappears, especially when you've already tried several steps. Don’t worry, I’ll guide you through a few solutions that should help get your camera working again.
Check Device Manager for Hidden Devices
Sometimes the camera is just hidden or disabled.
- Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
- Click View > Show hidden devices.
- Expand Imaging Devices, Cameras, or Sound, video and game controllers.
- If you see your camera listed (even greyed out), right-click it and choose Enable device or Update driver.
Scan for Hardware Changes
If the camera isn’t listed at all:
- In Device Manager, click Action > Scan for hardware changes.
- If Windows detects the camera, it should reinstall the driver automatically.
Install HP Support Assistant
HP Support Assistant can automatically detect and install missing drivers.
- Download it from here: HP Support Assistant | HP® Support
- Install and run it, then go to My devices > Updates and check for camera or system updates.
Use Windows Optional Updates
Sometimes camera drivers are available through Windows Update.
- Go to Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional updates.
- Look under Driver updates for any camera-related drivers and install them.
Restore Camera Driver via System Restore (Optional)
If the camera was working recently, you can try restoring your system:
- Type Create a restore point in the Start menu > System Restore > choose a restore point from before the issue started.
I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.
Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
