Hi @5CD334CG11,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your camera app is not working properly and you want to update it. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Restart the computer
A restart clears temporary system issues that may be preventing the camera app from working correctly.

Check for Windows updates
Open Settings > Windows Update and install any available updates. Camera drivers and app fixes are often included in Windows updates.

Update the camera driver using Device Manager
Open Device Manager, expand Cameras (or Imaging devices), right-click your camera, and select Update driver.
Choose Search automatically for drivers and allow Windows to install the latest available version.

Reinstall the camera driver
In Device Manager, right-click the camera device and select Uninstall device, then restart the computer.
Windows will automatically reinstall the correct driver after restart.

Update the Camera app from Microsoft Store
Open Microsoft Store, search for Camera, and check for updates.
Install any available updates to ensure the app is up to date.

Check camera access permissions
Go to Settings > Privacy & security > Camera and make sure camera access is turned ON.
Also confirm that apps are allowed to use the camera.

Run the Camera troubleshooter
Open Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters and run the Camera or Windows Store Apps troubleshooter.
This can automatically detect and fix common issues.

I hope this helps.

Hi Kuroi_Kenshi,

Thank you for the detailed suggestions.

I have tried everything you mentioned (restarting, checking for Windows updates, uninstalling/reinstalling via Device Manager, and checking privacy settings), but unfortunately, the camera is still not working.

I have noticed a specific behavior: I can see the camera drivers in Device Manager immediately after I restart my PC. However, once I open the Camera app or any other application that uses the camera, the drivers automatically hide or disappear from the Device Manager. I am not sure why this is happening.

Additionally, I tried to manually update the drivers, but I cannot find the latest camera drivers on the HP Support website either.

Do you have any advice on how to stop the drivers from disconnecting or where I can find the correct driver files?

Best regards,
Shubham

Hi @asdfjgh657,

Thank you for the response.

I understand your HP camera drivers appear in Device Manager after restart but disappear as soon as the Camera app is opened, and you’re unable to find updated camera drivers on the HP website. Let’s go through a few targeted steps to check what could be causing this behavior.

Confirm the camera device state when it disappears
Open Device Manager and select View > Show hidden devices.
Check under Cameras and Imaging devices to see if the camera shows as hidden or disabled.

Check for error codes on the camera device
When the camera is visible, right-click it and open Properties.
Note any error code (such as Code 10, 45, or 43), as this explains why Windows disables it when accessed.

Disable camera power management
In Device Manager, open the camera Properties > Power Management tab.
Uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power” and click OK.

Check USB controllers for power-saving behavior
Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers in Device Manager.
For each USB Root Hub, disable the option to allow Windows to turn it off to save power.

Verify Windows camera service behavior
Open Services and locate Windows Camera Frame Server.
Ensure the service is running and set to Automatic.

Check for privacy or security software interference
Temporarily disable any third-party security, webcam protection, or privacy software.
Some security tools disconnect the camera driver when an app attempts access.

Install the camera driver from the HP model-specific page
HP does not list camera drivers separately by default.
Camera drivers are usually bundled under Driver – Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices or Driver – Chipset for your exact HP model.

Install the chipset driver first
Download and install the latest chipset driver for your HP system from HP’s support page.
An outdated chipset driver can cause USB camera devices to disconnect when accessed.

Test using another camera application
Try Windows Camera, Microsoft Teams, or Zoom.
If the camera disappears in all apps, the issue is driver or hardware-level, not the Camera app itself.

Check BIOS camera setting
Restart the PC and enter BIOS (F10).
Confirm the internal camera is enabled under Security or System Configuration.

I hope this helps.
