HP EliteDesk 800 G1
Ubuntu LTS

I've got an HP EliteDesk 800 G1.  My problem is kind of the same as the problem listed in this HP Community thread and kind of opposite.

  • Same: we can't figure out how to control fan speed while running Ubuntu (I'm running Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS)
  • Different: his computer is hot and he wants more fan; my computer is cool and I want less fan

I've tried the same troubleshooting issues as that poster.  And I get the same result:  when I run pwmconfig I'm told:
There are no pwm-capable sensor modules installed

Is it possible to control fans on this machine or should I just give up?  If I can control, how?

@EliteDesker

You're out of luck -- as HP does not provide support for Ubuntu or other Linux distros.

For such support, you need to contact the Ubuntu forums.

@WAWood thanks for the reply.

I came here after searching on Linux and Ubuntu forums.  I've followed their general advice and couldn't get it to work so came here in hopes of specific advice.

Might just have to live with the fan always running.  Fortunately, it's not running full blast so it's not too loud.

This probably has been replaced since I have not used it in a while, but there was a package called LM-sensors (or something like that), which when installed and then "sensors" was run using SUDO, that enabled and produced a long list of sensors -- more than is usually seen by default.
