I was given an HP 400-214 and the OS and HD are toast. I installed another HD with Linux, but the system will only try to boot via the network. I pulled the battery and still the same result. I do see on the system board a set of 2 jumpers. ::: and the blue jumpers are covering the far right position. I don't know what they are for and wonder if that is what effects the boot? Any help would be appreciated. DDK - PA

I'm sorry, but HP only warranties their PCs for usage with the OS that comes preinstalled.
IF you replace that with a Linux distro, or add a Linux distro, then you assume full responsibility for maintaining that -- including solving any problems with booting the other OS and/or installing the other OS.
Your best bet for support with issues with Linux is to contact the support forum of the distro you are using.
Good Luck

Hello
If you have placed a new hard drive, where the system was already installed, the problem may be there!
You have to put the blank disk, and install the system afterwards!
Do not touch the motherboard, however it is probably necessary to modify, the secure mode.
I am not a Linux specialist, I advise you to go to the specilated sites, for the installation of this system!
If you have kept the original hard drive, it is a good thing, if need to reinstall the computer, if you cannot install the linux system!
is this computer?
