@Mahmoud2008,

This is a great and common question regarding CPU compatibility in HP business-class systems like the EliteDesk 705 G4 series. The short answer is: HP deliberately limits CPU compatibility in these systems for stability, security, and support policy reasons, especially distinguishing between Pro and non-Pro versions of AMD Ryzen processors.

Here's a breakdown:

🔹HP Business PCs and AMD "Pro" CPUs:

HP designed the EliteDesk 705 G4 series (MT and SFF) to support AMD Ryzen Pro processors. These CPUs:

  • Have enterprise-grade features like AMD PRO Security, DASH remote management, and longer support lifecycles.

  • Are certified and validated by HP's BIOS and firmware team to ensure full compatibility and manageability in business environments.

Because of this, HP's BIOS is typically locked to recognize only “Pro” SKUs, such as:

  • Ryzen 3 Pro 2200G

  • Ryzen 5 Pro 2400G

  • Ryzen 5 Pro 3400G

  • Ryzen 7 Pro 2700, etc.

🔹Non-Pro Ryzen CPUs (e.g., Ryzen 3 2200G):

These are consumer-grade chips, and while they are electrically compatible (same AM4 socket), they:

  • Lack the enterprise features required by business OEM platforms.

  • May be rejected by the BIOS or run in a degraded or unsupported state.

  • HP BIOS often whitelists only certain CPUs, and a non-Pro CPU may result in:

    • No POST

    • BIOS error (unsupported CPU)

    • System instability

🔹HP 705 G4 Platforms in UserBenchmark:

Looking at the HP 705 G4 MT and SFF UserBenchmark links, you’ll notice that the CPUs used in the 705 G4 MT and SFF models are all “Pro” variants. That reflects what HP shipped and validated:

  • 705 G4 MT — all systems show CPUs like Ryzen 5 Pro 2400G or Ryzen 7 Pro 2700.

  • 705 G4 SFF — same pattern.

No systems are shown with non-Pro Ryzen 3 2200G, confirming what we see in practice: non-Pro chips are not supported and won't work out of the box.

Summary:

Why aren't non-Pro Ryzen CPUs supported in the HP EliteDesk 705 G4?
Because HP locks BIOS support to enterprise “Pro” CPUs only for reasons of stability, management, and security. Non-Pro consumer Ryzen CPUs are not on the whitelist and will not be supported by the firmware.
