- I have an HP Pavilion 595-p0074, Windows 11. The OS, firmware, and drivers (including video drivers) are up to date, according to HP's PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows 2.3.2.0.
- I have attached a RocketFish RF-G1603 HDMI splitter with two Dell 27 inch monitors.
- I have restarted the system after all hardware was connected.
The problem is that the monitors only mirror - I cannot get them to extend the desktop. The splitter is designed to support extended mode but when I choose Windows-key+P / Extend, no change occurs. When I go to System/Display and choose Multiple Displays/Detect Other Display, I see a message "We didn't find another display" even though two displays are connected and displaying the same desktop, so the system can connect to both.
I have begun to wonder whether the fact that the splitter sees two of the same make/model of monitor is confusing it so that it does not recognize two different monitors of the same type are connected. But that is only a guess.
Any guidance how to force this system to support extended mode?

Hi @concordian,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems like you're experiencing issues extending your desktop across two monitors connected to your HP Pavilion 595-P0074 desktop computer. To resolve this problem, you can follow these troubleshooting steps.
Check Hardware Connections:
- Ensure that both monitors are properly connected to your computer's graphics ports. Use the correct cables and connectors (HDMI, DisplayPort, DVI, etc.) for your monitors and graphics card.
Update Graphics Drivers:
- Outdated or incompatible graphics drivers can cause display issues. Visit the manufacturer's website for your graphics card (e.g., NVIDIA, AMD, Intel) and download the latest drivers for your specific model.
Restart Your Computer:
- Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve display issues. Restart your computer and see if the problem persists.
Check Graphics Settings:
- Right-click on the desktop and select "Display settings" or go to "System" > "Display" in the Control Panel.
- Make sure both monitors are detected under "Display" settings. If not, try clicking "Detect" or "Identify" to see if Windows recognizes them.
- In the "Multiple displays" section, select "Extend these displays" from the dropdown menu.
Graphics Control Panel (NVIDIA/AMD):
- If you have a dedicated graphics card, you might also have a control panel for your GPU (e.g., NVIDIA Control Panel or AMD Radeon Settings). Open it and check for display settings.
- Ensure that the multiple display mode is set to "Extend" or "Dual Display."
Check for Windows Updates:
- Make sure your operating system is up to date. Sometimes, Windows updates include bug fixes for display-related issues.
Try Different Cables and Ports:
- If you have multiple output ports on your graphics card, try using different ones.
- Also, test with different cables to rule out any cable issues.
Update BIOS/UEFI:
- Check if there is a BIOS/UEFI update available for your HP Pavilion 595-P0074 on HP's website and update it if necessary.
Disable and Re-enable Monitors:
- In the "Display" settings, you can try disabling and re-enabling one of the monitors. Sometimes, this can trigger the system to recognize them correctly.
Check for Hardware Issues:
- If none of the above steps work, there might be a hardware issue with your graphics card or the splitter itself. Consider testing the monitors individually to see if they can extend the desktop without the splitter.
By following these steps, you should be able to identify and resolve the issue preventing you from extending your desktop across two monitors on your HP Pavilion 595-P0074.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
