When I try to install Windows 11 Version 24H2, I get the message "We can't tell if your PC has enough space to continue installing Windows 11. Try restarting Setup."  My PC meets all the hardware and space requirements for installing Windows 11.

Hi @TerryG9, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding windows 11 installation!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

That sounds frustrating, your PC meets the requirements, but Windows 11 isn’t giving you a break. Let’s work together to fix this so you can get that update running smoothly.

Check Available Disk Space

Make sure you have enough free space on your system drive (usually C:). Even if your PC meets the hardware requirements, Windows 11 needs additional space during installation.

  1. Open File Explorer and go to This PC.
  2. Right-click on C: drive and select Properties.
  3. Check how much free space is available. You should have at least 64GB of free space for Windows 11 installation, ideally more.
  4. If space is low, try to clear up some room by:
    • Removing unnecessary files or moving them to an external storage device.
    • Running Disk Cleanup by typing "Disk Cleanup" in the search bar and selecting the drive to clean.
    • Deleting temporary files or unused apps.

Perform a Clean Boot and Disable Unnecessary Startup Programs

A clean boot helps prevent any background applications from interfering with the installation.

  1. Press Win + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
  2. Go to the Services tab.
  3. Check Hide all Microsoft services and click Disable All.
  4. Now, go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager.
  5. Disable all non-essential startup items.
  6. Restart the PC and try running the Windows 11 installer again.

Use Windows Update Assistant

Sometimes, using the Windows Update Assistant can bypass issues that arise during the installation process.

  1. Download the Windows 11 Update Assistant from the official Microsoft website.
  2. Run the tool and follow the on-screen instructions to upgrade to Windows 11.

  2. In the Command Prompt, type the following and press Enter:
  3. If prompted to schedule the check on the next restart, type Y and press Enter.
  4. Restart your PC and let the tool run.

Reset Windows Update Components

Corrupted or incomplete update components could cause issues during the installation.

  1. Press Win + X and select Command Prompt (Admin).
  2. Type the following commands one by one and press Enter after each: net stop wuauserv net stop bits
  3. Now, type the following command to reset Windows Update: ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
  4. Restart your PC and try running the Windows 11 installer again.

Update Your System's Drivers & BIOS

Ensure that all your system's drivers and BIOS are up to date. Sometimes, outdated drivers or BIOS can block Windows 11 installations.

  1. Visit the HP Support website and enter your product number to find the latest drivers for your system.
  2. Update all critical drivers (especially chipset, storage, and display drivers).
  3. Check if your BIOS is up to date and update it if necessary.

Try a USB Installation

If all else fails, you can attempt to install Windows 11 using a USB drive:

  1. Download the Windows 11 Media Creation Tool from Microsoft.
  2. Use the tool to create a bootable USB installation drive.
  3. Boot your system from the USB and perform a fresh installation of Windows 11.

I hope the steps help get the installation going. If it doesn’t, feel free to reach out, and we’ll dive deeper into the issue!
