Windows update really wants to update the BIOS to faulty version F.57 again on next reboot after rollback!
I stopped the update before executing (there are 15 seconds left to stop), then back in the OS I had a warning to reboot for firmware update to complete - I did a reboot and stopped it again before executing, after the second cancellation there wasn't another try by Windows to update the BIOS so far (since 2023-02-15). But I can only speak for my system.
Additionally I deactivated driver updates inside Windows Update in GroupPolicy (gpedit.msc - WinXPro) - in WinXHome You can do this in the registry. There are several instructions for that easy to find.
I.e. look at:

When I booted up today, there was no further attempt to install F.57. I didn't even get that message when logging in saying it needed to restart to install it. In device manager under "system firmware" there's a yellow triangle and going into properties under the general tab it says:
This device cannot start. (Code 10)
{Operation Failed}
The requested operation was unsuccessful.
Before this message it said that it needed to restart to finish the update or something along those lines and there was a "Restart Computer" button. So that message changed after I cancelled the update several times.
Under driver tab weirdly enough it says the driver version is 15.57.0.0, doesn't affect anything because it's actually on F.41.

@madpoli. Hi 🙂
After rolling back to <F57 (I rolled back to f55, which works flawlessly)
Download diskgenius or similar. Find the recovery partition and go to /HP/bios/previous and new folders.
Delete the bin and sig files in both.
Do NOT delete the bin and sig in the Current folder.
.. And it will stop slipping the faulty F57 back in.
And a big thanks to everyone that contributed here in the hp forum.
Kindest regards,
STIAN

@madpoli
One more 🙂
I had the same problem in device manager.
I deleted/uninstalled the (firmware) device in device manager and it Re installed itself a second later, and then worked well thereafter.

On March 8 2023 I made a BIOS update SUGGESTED BY HP VIA HP SUPPORT ASSISTANT and just three hours later my laptop began showing blue screen "THREAD STUCK ON DEVICE DRIVER", had problems on the WiFi adapter...I'm so angry as my laptop was running smoothly before that BIOS update.
I tried a lot of solutins (sfc/scannnow etc ect), updated the graphics driver of AMD RADEON VEGA 6, but no one solved the issue.
Sometimes, randomly, the laptop gest completely stuck.
Fortunately it happens only each some days, not every day, but it’s frustrating.
I now have BIOS AMI F.50 24/11/2022.
I opened a case to HP tech support and they told me...that I made a mistake when updating BIOS!!!
I’m vey disappointed, embittered.
It was HP’s fault, not mine.
I only installed the BIOS they suggested.
