HP Pavilion 775y (D7219F) CTO Desktop PC
Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

Every time i try to boot to the startup menu, it says on the corner Loading startup menu (or something like that), but the pc stops showing any kind of video, even though the fans are spinning. It only has vga output, so I know it isn't showing things on another port.

P.S: I'm using a vga to hdmi adapter if it matters.

The best thing to do is retire HP. I have similar issues with a desktop and they have no support. I just ordered a computer from a different manufacturer, and my next printer will be some other brand too. Longtime customer, now an ex customer.

Hi @sussyguy,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Pavilion 775y (D7219F) CTO Desktop PC cannot boot to the BIOS, it can be due to several reasons. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.

Check Hardware Connections:

  • Ensure that all cables and connections, including power cables, monitor cables, keyboard, and mouse connections, are secure.
  • If you're using an external display, make sure it's powered on and set to the correct input source.

Power Cycle:

  • Turn off the computer and disconnect the power cable.
  • Hold down the power button for 15-30 seconds to discharge any residual power.
  • Reconnect the power cable and turn on the computer.

Check for Beep Codes or Error Lights:

  • Listen for any beep codes or look for error lights on the computer. These can provide clues about the specific hardware issue.
  • Refer to your motherboard or system manual for information on interpreting beep codes and error lights.

Keyboard:

  • Ensure that the keyboard is functioning correctly. Sometimes, a malfunctioning keyboard can prevent access to the BIOS.
  • Try using a different keyboard to see if it makes a difference.

Clear CMOS:

  • If there's a problem with BIOS settings, clearing the CMOS may help. To do this:
    • Turn off the computer and unplug it from the power source.
    • Open the computer case and locate the CMOS battery on the motherboard.
    • Remove the CMOS battery for a few minutes and then reinsert it.
    • Close the case, plug in the computer, and turn it on.

Inspect for Hardware Issues:

  • Check for any loose or disconnected hardware components, such as RAM or graphics cards.
  • Reseat RAM and any expansion cards, ensuring they are properly connected to their slots.

Monitor and Graphics:

  • Make sure the monitor is working correctly by connecting it to another computer.
  • If you have a discrete graphics card, ensure it is properly seated in its slot.
  • Try connecting the monitor directly to the motherboard's video output if you have integrated graphics.

BIOS/UEFI Key:

  • Make sure you are pressing the correct key to enter the BIOS/UEFI during startup. Common keys include Del, F2, F10, F12, or Esc, depending on the motherboard or computer model.
  • Try pressing the key multiple times immediately after turning on the computer.

Bootable Media:

  • If there's a bootable USB drive or CD/DVD in the computer, remove it and try booting without it.

Hardware Failure:

  • If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it's possible that there is a hardware failure, such as a faulty motherboard or power supply.

If you've tried all these steps and still cannot access the BIOS, it may be indicative of a more serious hardware problem

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
