Hi,

I've been having this issue for a while now I would just switch on my laptop and an error message would appear saying 'class not registered, Explorer.EXE'. I'm not sure what's wrong, at first I thought it was due to not updating regularly, however, I check my updates regularly now and update my laptop and I still have this issue.

Would really appreciate assistance with this!

Thank you

In Windows, each "file-type", such as PDF or TXT or EXE must be "associated" with a program that is able to process each file, e.g., for a PDF file, your computer has been told to launch Adobe Reader.

Somehow, the "registration" of the "association" for EXE files is missing, or is not correct.

Or, there might be a "rogue" file, also named "explorer.exe" (dropped onto your computer's disk-drive by a virus?) that Windows is preventing you from launching it. Or, the correct "explorer.exe" file has become corrupted.

Hi,

thank you for your reply.

I called HP and they told me that it could be due to a corrupt file / software. They told me what I need to do to fix this and it's been sorted now - haven't had the problem since 😊

Hi there, the issue hasn't been solved, unfortunately. For a good 1 week or so there weren't any issues and just recently the 'class not registered error' appeared again.

Do you remember what they told you?
