Pavilion p7 1297c

I have a Pavilion p7 1297c and I'm trying to use a new graphics card, which is the AMD Radeon RX460. The problem is; the AMI 7.07 BIOS is too old for it, and HP says there's no updates for this motherboard. However, the 8.20 rev BIOS works since a guy with the exact same PC was able to update to it by Googling the link (https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Radeon-RX460-video-card-upgrade...). Now the link just gives a ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED error whenever I try to use the link to download the BIOS update. Does anyone know where I can find the 8.20 Rev BIOS update for my PC?

Just a guess, since the string '2AE0' appears on two web-pages.

So, "caveat emptor" applies.

The Jasmine motherboard BIOS update 8.20 was posted under a different HP PC model series.  There would be some risk to installing this BIOS update since it wasn't certified for your particular model.

I sugggest that you update the diagnostics on your PC and run a full set to make sure that your PC is stable before doing a BIOS update.

A similar situation arose not long ago with a different PC where a higher level BIOS update from a different PC model using the same motherboard SSID should work per HP internal.

Hmm, okay. It's the same motherboard so it should work, right?

Hi,

It should work but of course no guarantee.

The BIOS-updating program checks that the "new" BIOS will be compatible with the motherboard.

It does this _before_ actually trying to do the update, and will refuse to continue.

Caveat emptor!

Alright, gonna try this.

Great news!!! It worked perfectly! Now to see if this BIOS is new enough to work with the new graphics card I got.

Thank you so much guys.

HP Recommended

The new graphics card is working thanks to the BIOS update, again, tysm.

Good show! @Meme_Machine

I was going to mention another "igotcha" with the BIOS update but since you installed it successfully then we don't have to deal with that issue.:smileywink:
