Pavilion Desktop 590-p0024
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi! I have an HP Pavilion Desktop 590-p0024, Windows 10 64 bit. I've been trying to install the latest version of HP Support Assistant to no avail! When I go to the HP Official Site and click the Download HP Support Assistant button, it is NOT the latest version! When I click install after downloading the so-called latest version, it tells me that I have a "newer" version installed and it will now close. Also, the current version (which I've uninstalled) would not allow me to sign in, and it would tell me that it wasn't connected to the internet when I knew for a fact that I WAS connected. Very frustrating! I don't know what else to do. I've uninstalled the current version I had, rebooted, downloaded and "tried" to install the "latest" version a few times and it just isn't happening. Is there a solution to this madness and can someone please help me to fix this once and for all? Any suggestions/helps are appreciated. Thanks, Suzanne

P.S. This is my husband's PC which I'm working on 🙂

The version of HP Support Assistant is determined by the hardware.

You cannot force install a version of HP Support assistant onto a machine that cannot support the software / application.

The "new" version is not "better" in this case - the new version (9.6.x at this writing) is meant to be installed on new computers that meet the requirements for installing the newer version.

Long Answer

There are two "flavors" of HP Support Assistant.

HP Support Assistant Software (located in Programs and Features) - likely version 8.8.x

and, for systems that can support the newer version,

HP Support Assistant Application (located in Settings > Apps > Apps and Features) - at this writing, 9.6.x

What is different?

The application version of the HPSA provides a different GUI (Graphics User Interface).  Some people like it better because the format / layout is similar to other mobile applications.

At this writing, there are few "under the hood" differences that would impact the ability of the HPSA to do its job.

Download, Save, Install the latest supported HP version of the HP Support Assistant
