HP z220 SFF
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have found that my outdated bios (k51v01.80 10/21/2014) needs to be updated to most current version (1.86 rev a 6/26/2018) and have installed that bios on a usb stick.

When I attempt to run that as administrator in windows, I am unable to get to HP System BIOS update Utility screen. I even separately downloaded a HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows tool, and when I attempt to launch that a pop up comes up that says

"System not supported" Sorry for the inconvenience. This application does not currently support this system. please Check again later.

When I launch UEFI, the system does not recognize the file on the USB drive.

I am dead in the water and have followed all HP videos and links and an unable to update my bios. Please help. Thank you in advance.

Hi:

Here is the easiest and safest way to update the BIOS in your PC.

Download and run the BIOS file from your PC.   An information page will open.

You want to follow the instructions under the Startup Menu/Computer Setup BIOS Flashing section.

I am going to summarize the instructions for you.

1. Get a USB flash drive.   Format it with the FAT32 file system.

2.  You can see a blue → View Contents of DOS Flash Folder at the bottom of the Startup Menu/Computer Setup BIOS Flashing  section.

3. Click on that View Contents of DOS Flash Folder link and the BIOS update file folder will open.

4.  Copy and paste all of those files to your FAT32- formatted USB flash drive.  Just the files, not the folder.

5. Restart the PC, Tap the ESC key at the beginning of the HP welcome screen to get the menu of options.

Select the F10 setup option and press the enter key.   Now you are in the BIOS.

6. Select the File tab>Flash system ROM command.

7. Select the USB flash drive.   The PC should now 'see' the BIOS update files on the flash drive.

8.  Follow the on screen instructions to update the BIOS.
