I have an old Pavilion AIO 23-q214. It's currently running Windows 10 and I need to be able to boot off of a CD, but I can't seem to figure out how. I disaabled Secure Boot in the BIOS, enabled Legacy, and changed the boot priority to make the DVD drive first on the list, but it still keeps bypassing it and going straight into Windows. I've tried using both the internal dirve and a USB, but not luck. What am I missing?

 

I f any other specific information is required, I'll gladly supply it. Thank you in advance for any assistance. 😊

Try these steps:

Confirm Device Recognition:

  • Ensure the CD/DVD drive or USB device is detected by the BIOS. Sometimes, even if the priority is changed, the BIOS may not recognize the boot device properly.

Check Boot Media:

  • Verify that the CD or USB is bootable. You can test it on another computer to confirm its functionality.

Make Additional BIOS Adjustments:

  • Enter BIOS Setup (usually by pressing F10 or Esc upon startup).
  • Double-check that Secure Boot is disabled and Legacy Support is enabled.
  • Ensure that the boot order is indeed set to prioritize the CD/DVD or USB drive. This might require selecting "Boot Options" or similar.

Save Changes and Reboot:

  • After making sure that all settings are correct, save changes and exit the BIOS setup.
  • Use the correct key during startup (usually F9) for selecting a boot device temporarily. This might allow you to manually select the CD/DVD or USB drive during boot process.

Check for BIOS Updates:

  • Ensure your BIOS is updated to the latest version available from the HP Support page.

Try Alternative USB Ports:

  • If using a USB, try switching ports, especially using USB 2.0 instead of USB 3.0.
