Hi @Mufflerman79

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how frustrating it must feel when the screen suddenly goes blank or shows “Not Supported” after a resolution change.

Thank you for trying to adjust the settings yourself—let’s carefully walk through steps to bring the display back to normal.

Here’s what you can do:

Restart into Safe Mode

  • Power off your computer completely.
  • Turn it back on and as soon as you see the HP logo, repeatedly press the F8 key (on some systems it may be Shift + F8 or you may need to interrupt startup three times to trigger Windows Recovery).
  • From the menu, choose Safe Mode. This loads Windows with a basic resolution that your monitor can handle.

Reset the Resolution in Safe Mode

  • Once inside Safe Mode, right‑click on the desktop and select Display settings.
  • Scroll down to Display resolution and choose a lower, widely supported option such as 1024 × 768 or 1280 × 720.
  • Click Apply and then Keep changes.
  • Restart the computer normally.

Use Advanced Startup if Safe Mode doesn’t appear

  • Power on the computer, then hold the power button to force shutdown as soon as Windows begins loading. Repeat this two more times.
  • On the third attempt, Windows should open Automatic Repair.
  • Select Advanced options → Troubleshoot → Advanced options → Startup Settings → Restart.
  • After restart, press the number key for Enable Safe Mode.
  • Then follow the resolution reset steps above.

Update Graphics Driver (after regaining display)

  • Once the screen is back, open Device Manager.
  • Expand Display adapters, right‑click your graphics driver, and select Update driver.
  • Choose Search automatically for drivers. This ensures the driver matches your monitor’s capabilities.

Final Adjustment

  • After updating, return to Display settings and select the resolution that looks crisp and fits your monitor.
  • If unsure, gradually increase until the display remains stable.

This should restore your screen. I appreciate the effort you’ve already put in—it shows great initiative. With these steps, you’ll be back to a clear, supported display.
