Do I need to close apps before power off or shutting down? 

Because I've been shutting down my laptop without closing my apps, I think. And my friend brought up this topic that shutting down laptop could cause failure and damage to the laptop...please help

You should close all of your apps before shutting down the PC because sometimes running apps will prevent or delay a PC from shutting down.

 

Damage...probably not.  Operating system issues...possibly.

 

Invest another 5 seconds of your time and close any open apps before turning off the PC.
