HP Envy Desktop 750-514
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Downloaded and created the USB restore media and the process seems as if it is working then when the process is completed and the computer reboots I get this error:
Component: windows 10 PIN diagnostics ReD-CPS
Timing: factory update
error: incorrect brand name
next step: Please Check model name or feature byte

the product ID I used to create the restore USB is the same one that is listed in the bios.
Now what do I do?

Hi:

If the cloud recovery tool isn't working, you can clean install W10 by making a bootable USB installation flash drive using the Media creation tool at the link below. Select the 64 bit media creation option.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

After W10 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your PC's support page.

Well, that's what I tried first.

🙂

It should have worked.

I have used it dozens of times on many different model PC's.

Try downloading the 64 bit ISO file instead and use the tool that I zipped up and attached below to transfer the ISO file to a DVD so that it is bootable.

Then to boot from the DVD, you first need to go into the BIOS, enable legacy mode and disable secure boot.

See this link for the settings to change.

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03659945

Then to actually boot from the DVD, you turn on the PC, immediately tap the ESC key to get the menu of options, select the F9 boot options menu, and from that select the legacy DVD drive and press the Enter key.

Watch the screen for a message to press any key to boot from the DVD.

Thank you, I'll try that.
I think my error may have been rebooting before updating the drivers.

You're very welcome.

well it reinstalled windows and let me connect to the HP support page for updating the software and drivers.
I install the diagnostic tool for  the machine type and used the download assistant to update the bios and when it rebooted, all I got was a black screen

Personally, I would never update the BIOS unless the release notes addressed a problem my PC was having that the BIOS update fixed.

I suggest you start a new post on that subject because IMHO, you may have just turned your PC into an expensive doorstop.

I don't believe so (door stop).
reinstalled windows, accessed my Microsoft account was online when the screen went black again.
At first I thought it was a power setting but now I think it has something to do with either the graphics card or driver.
