Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the case regarding information on how to reset your printer. Superb description, brilliant troubleshooting and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂
To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this:
- Are you looking to hard reset the printer?
- Is the printer not working correctly?
- Do you get any error messages?
- Did you try to restore the printer to factory defaults?
- When you state that you need to perform a cold reset are you speaking about an NVRAM reset on it?
For now, try these steps:
- Please perform a hard reset on the printer from this link: https://hp.care/2KGRDoE and follow instructions from the section “Step 2: Reset the printer”
- Now check if the issue gets fixed. If you need to reset the printer to factory settings then follow instructions from this user guide link: https://hp.care/2tZaMON Refer to page 75 for steps on how to do it.
- Now check if the issue gets fixed. If it continues, I will send you a private message with steps on how to perform an NVRAM reset or Super NVRAM reset to factory settings. Please check your Forum private message box for instructions from me.
Perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. Good luck to you. I will keep a watch for your response. It is paramount to assist you as you are a valued HP customer.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

I read the quick response. Thanks for the update. It is nice to have you back. Great effort, brilliant troubleshooting and terrific attitude displayed by you. Kudos to you for that. 🙂
This is a hardware issue with the printer. you need to contact HP phone support to get the printer replaced. I am being honest about it by keeping your best interest in mind without beating around the bush.
HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: https://hp.care/2r9wSvP
- Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.
- Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.
- Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.
- Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.
They will be happy to assist you immediately.
If the unit is under warranty, the manufacturer’s warranty should take care of it for you.
Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes. To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Hi, can you please provide me with instructions on how to reset the NVRAM of the printer? We have a MFP M125 (non touch screen) and our sys admin password protected the device and he is not with us anymore.
Thank you
