OMEN 25L Desktop GT12-1340m CTO
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Since the first day that I have received this desktop, when I have it idle for too long, the computer fan attached to the case will stop working. On the other hand, the fan inside the pc still runs. When it does this I can no longer use the pc or get it out of idle with the power button. My only resort is to pull the plug out of the wall and put it back in. Sometimes when I do so a screen shows up saying that there's something wrong with the fan and that the pc will shut down if no buttons are pressed. However, nothing shows up under hp support. I've asked a bit around and people have said that it could be the voltage... I don't know what to do and this is the first pc I've ever had.

@pixelconquest -- how "new" is the computer? Every new HP computer comes with a one-year warranty, where HP will fix any hardware issues, at no cost to you, such as the fan that stops.

On your computer:

  1. click the Windows "start" button (bottom-left of your screen)
  2. just above that button, you should see a wheel with teeth
  3. click there, to open the "Settings" window
  4. into the input box, type power and press Enter
  5. one of the choices will allow you to increase the number of minutes (usually 10) before the screen goes "dark", and also before the computer goes to "sleep".

So, making this change will reduce the number of "sleeps".

Note that a solid "tap" of the on/off button should end the "sleep" mode.
