HP Omen 30L
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello and thank you for your time reading this.
I recently bought my HP Omen from Best Buy. I got an amazing deal on the Omen 30L GT13-1000a given the shortage of 3000 series GPU’s. It seemed to work fine on the first start up then the tower would start but nothing else. After figuring out how to start it and actually get into Windows I updated everything. Drivers, software, etc.

I would get the “502 error” code so I updated the BIOS No help. Now mind you once in Windows 11 it runs great, lightning  fast, plays all my games, only thing I really want to upgrade right now is the RAM. I narrowed it down to probably a bad CMOS Battery because once I shutdown the same thing starts all over again. It will restart fine but only the tower turns on after shutdown.
I found the Windows + B startup method and ran the BIOS recovery. Still does it.
Now I’m at the point where I hold Windows +B hold power for 3 seconds and it skips right over the BIOS recovery and I log in like normal. I shut down like normal and just have to do this when I start up.
Is this ok for the time being? I mean it works fine, I see no issues so it can’t be the motherboard or anything else except the CMOS battery in my opinion. The weird thing is though the time and date are also correct 🤦🏻‍♂️
So again is this a safe way to use my PC and what exactly is it doing by pressing windows + B at startup? It’s not a difficult solution and my PC works perfectly. Am I hurting anything by doing this? I know it’s not ideal but is this an OK way to startup the system? What exactly am I missing by not getting to the root of the issue? I spent $1499 on the system so I’m not looking to invest anymore right now. I would like a 3090 probably at some point but again given the current situation I’ll take the 3060 ti and ryzen 7 5800x. I’m absolutely giddy about the system I’m sorry but I’ve never had a system this good and for this price.

Thank you so much for the help!

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I understand you are getting this error on the computer screen.

The following message displays for 15 seconds before the computer automatically reboots. You have the option of pressing enter to proceed without waiting 15 seconds.

Identifying the CMOS Checksum Error (502)

To resolve the CMOS Reset Error (502), restore the BIOS.

  1. Press enter to restart the PC.

  2. If the error displays after restarting, try to restore the BIOS using a USB drive. For more information, see the "Recover the BIOS using a USB recovery drive" section of the following:

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
