Infuriating problem with my PC.
Freezes up and makes buzzing from speakers.
Bios and drivers all updated.
Taken it in to 2 computer repair places but they said its ok.
Get it home and does the same thing.
Works fine when I'm using it but when left idle it locks up.
HELP !

Intermittent problems are difficult to solve. You mention it seems to fail when idle for a long time. That indicates a problem with a device "sleeping" and not waking up.
Try the following to confirm sleep problem.
Bring up your advanced power management plan and
disable sleep (set it to never)
enable hibernation.(30 minutes?)
After 30 minutes the system will hibernate instead of sleeping.
If the above works then (if you want) we can investigate why the system is failing to wake from sleep.

Thanks Beemerbiker, I have the power controls to never shut down.
It's not that it won't wake from sleep, it freezes completely randomly and get a loud buzzing from the speakers.
It works fine if I'm sat using it but I go away and leave it playing online radio, it freezes with the buzzing.
Then have to crash it and restart.
Think it gets lonely, ha ha.
Computer shop can't find a problem, or a different guy I used.
Infuriating !

Thanks.
As I previously said, it's not going into sleep/hibernation.
Power controls are set to never shut down.
It freezes and locks up with the buzzing from the speakers, and happens completely randomly, normally if I leave it running with online radio playing.
Could be 5 minutes or 5 hours.
Worked perfectly yesterday but that's a rare occurrence.
Have tried all checks on HP diagnostics.
Windows & drivers all up to date.
I'm lost of what to do, take a sledgehammer to it and replace it 😕

I am no expert for full disclosure. I just have a question. Have you checked your memory C: and D drive file system? If so how much available memory do you have and is a lot of your memory taken up by "system files"?

What firewall are you using? I recently switched to mcafee and it works way better than Microsoft. actually I downloaded a port scanner because I wanted to know what was being used and how apps and programs were getting in. I have a big system but I don't want to share it. I think what you are hearing is static from something working while it's idle. Use the free trial for Mcafee and set it to lockdown when you are ready for the computer to rest and experiment with it to track what is coming and going out of your system. You can set it to let you decide what apps and programs are allowed to send or receive messages. I'm still not an expert but I believe this will fix the problems your having

Yes, hardware problem it seems, and intermittent. Since this is an older system please use an air duster to clean out the power supply and motherboard. I recommend you reseat memory.
Bring up the windows event viewer and look under both system and applications for any unusual events that occur just before the system hangs up. I also recommend you do a disk scan.
