Was requested to install HP (could have been windows) update took a really long time. Once the system came up the login screen appeared. I can log in, but then screen goes black and can't access anything. If I hit Ctrl/Alt/Del I can logout, but the task manager won't open. Worried I got a virus or something with update.

Thanks to a local Geek Squad found a solution. You need to constantly hit the Esc key while turning on the computer in order to login in safe mode. There is an option to Reset the computer and reinstall windows. This option even provides opportunity to save your personal files. However, there is also an option under troublesetting that allows you to roll back the last feature and quality Windows 10 updates. I used these options to solve issue and lose no data. The key was the use of Esc key because the windows button and F8 did not work on the Pavillion I have.
