I accidentally dropped my laptop when I was getting ready to go to sleep. At first it was working fine but after a while it started to freeze and would take forever to do things until I unplugged it. Sometimes I was able to use my laptop with the charger slightly plugged in but now it doesn’t work. The charging port looks like it might be bent but when I changed it my laptop still would lag when plugged in. Changing power modes doesn’t seem to fix the issue either. Should I send it in to be checked out or is there something else I could do?

@Ic3y214, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the HP P204v 19.5-inch Monitor.

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution. We hope our assistance has been helpful!

If your HP All-in-One Desktop PC slows down when you plug in the charger, it could result from a few different issues. Here are some potential causes and solutions:

  1. Power Plan Settings: The power plan settings might be configured to reduce performance when plugged in to save energy or due to a misconfiguration. Check your power plan settings:

    • Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options.
    • Select your power plan and then click on Change plan settings.
    • Click on Change advanced power settings, and look for settings that might reduce performance, such as processor power management or battery settings.
  2. Background Processes: Sometimes, plugging in the charger might trigger certain background processes like updates or backups that could slow down your computer. Check for any processes running in the background and consider disabling unnecessary startup programs.

  3. Hardware Issues: If there's an issue with the charger or the charging port, it might cause performance issues. Ensure that the charger is the correct model for your PC and that all connections are secure.

  4. Battery and Power Supply: A failing battery or power supply unit can cause power management issues. If possible, try using a different charger or battery to see if the issue persists.

  5. Overheating: Plugging in the charger might cause the system to overheat if the cooling system is not functioning properly. Make sure that your system vents are clean and that the system has proper airflow.

I hope this helps!

Take care and have an amazing day!
