@stargirl64, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

I understand your HP computer has frozen and is glitching badly, let’s work together to get it back up and running smoothly.

Perform a Hard Reset (Power Drain)

This helps clear temporary hardware or firmware glitches.

For laptops with removable battery:

  1. Shut down the computer.
  2. Unplug the power adapter and remove the battery.
  3. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the battery and power adapter, then turn it on.

For laptops with non-removable battery or desktops:

  1. Shut down the computer.
  2. Unplug the power cord.
  3. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  4. Plug it back in and power it on.

Boot into Safe Mode

If the system is still frozen or glitching:

  1. Turn off the PC.
  2. Turn it on and immediately press F8 or Shift + F8 repeatedly (older systems) or:
    • Interrupt boot 3 times (force shutdown during boot) to trigger Windows Recovery Environment.
  3. Go to Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart.
  4. Press F4 to boot into Safe Mode.

In Safe Mode, check if the issue persists. If not, it could be a driver or software conflict.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

Let’s rule out hardware issues:

  • Turn off the PC.
  • Turn it on and immediately press F2 repeatedly.
  • Select System Tests > Quick Test (or Extensive Test for deeper check).

Perform System Restore (if issue started recently)

If the glitching started after a recent update or install:

  • Boot into Windows Recovery Environment (as above).
  • Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > System Restore.
  • Choose a restore point before the issue began.

Update Graphics Drivers (if accessible)

If you can boot normally or in Safe Mode with Networking:

  • Go to Device Manager > Display Adapters.
  • Right-click your graphics card > Update driver.
  • Or visit HP Support Assistant or your GPU manufacturer’s site (Intel, AMD, NVIDIA).

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
