Suggestion: Use AHCI instead of RAID by default on HP home computers
#Bluescreen #Freezingcomputerscreen
Hi HP,
@A_Gayathri
I @ you, because I can see that you are a technical expert at HP, so you may be the right person to show this to
I’d like to share a frustrating experience and offer a simple suggestion that could help many users avoid it.
For more than a year, I’ve been dealing with random freezing & blue screens, and problems reinstalling Windows on my HP All-in-One PC. After countless hours of troubleshooting and searching for solutions,
I’ve discovered the main cause: RAID is enabled by default in BIOS, but Windows doesn’t have built-in RAID drivers.
This creates serious problems:
Windows installation can't detect the drive
Frequent system crashes
Difficult driver installation (Intel RST driver is hard to find and use)
In contrast, my older ASUS computer used AHCI by default, and it handled issues like this effortlessly.
Whenever something went wrong, it basically fixed itself — even as a non-technical user, I never had to worry.
But on my HP PC, I’ve spent dozens of hours trying to fix RAID-related problems. And since I can't switch to AHCI in BIOS (option not available), I’ve been stuck in a loop of crashes and failed fixes.
So here’s my suggestion:
Use AHCI as the default storage mode on home PCs, or
At least provide a BIOS option to switch between AHCI and RAID
And clearly inform users of the current setting and how to change it
For users with a single SSD or hard drive, RAID offers no benefit, but it causes a lot of unnecessary trouble.
By using AHCI instead, Windows can rely on its own drivers — and users can avoid the headaches I’ve gone through.
This small change would make a huge difference, especially for non-tech-savvy users like me.
And it would even be a great selling point too:
“HP PCs recover automatically and are easy to reinstall — no extra drivers needed.”
Thank you for reading — I hope this will be considered.
That will solve all HP users Bluescreen problems and freezings of computerescreens around the world and YOU would have a much better product to sell.

Hi @Søren4,
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience in such detail and for offering thoughtful suggestions regarding the default storage controller mode on your HP Pavilion All-in-One PC.
First, I’d like to sincerely apologize for the frustration you've faced over the past year with system freezes, blue screens, and reinstall challenges. I can understand how discouraging that must have been, especially when the root cause was related to BIOS settings not being visible or intuitive to adjust.
I’ve shared your feedback internally with the relevant product and firmware teams. While I cannot promise immediate changes, please know that customer feedback like yours plays a vital role in shaping our future design decisions, BIOS configurations, and support resources.
We're also reviewing how we can better inform users of the current storage mode and, where possible, offer more transparency and flexibility in BIOS, especially for users who are trying to troubleshoot or reinstall Windows independently.
Once again, thank you for your patience, your clear insight, and your constructive input. It's customers like you who help us improve and deliver better experiences with each new generation of HP devices.
Please click “Accepted Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue; it will help others find the solution. Click the “Kudos/Thumbs Up" on the bottom right to say “Thanks” for helping!
Take care and have a great day ahead!

Thank you, then I know someone is looking in to it.
It will help so many HP costumers around the world,
if you make an update on that BIOS, so it uses AHCI, as windows can recognize.
It will help HP as well, when costumers are more satisfied, less costumers support and more HP computer sales.
So THANK YOU VERY MUCH
I will look forward to you solving the problem.
