Sometimes in the last months from 23H2 to 24H2, my D storage drive does not show upon restarting computer. I have had to do a chkdsk and then shut down computer and restarted and it show up. I have contacted Microsoft and Western Digital and Sandisk as the drives are SSD- both C (OS) and D (storage drive). Western Digital/Sandisk is concluding it may be Window 11 OR If your storage drive D is not showing up after a second shutdown and a restart, try the following steps: 1. Press Windows + X and select Disk Management. 2. From the menu bar, select Action and then Rescan disks. 3. Wait for the rescan progress to complete and check if the D drive is now showing up1. If the issue persists, consider checking the BIOS settings and seeking further assistance.
I have also completed this as described. However, I will need help checking the BIOS settings and I do have a paid HP Care Pack that is not showing in the warranty section. We have had no new BIOS, drivers like Bluetooth, and chipset or USB.
We need help and not receiving it.
Microsoft is saying to contact HP for help with the Drive D not showing.

Greetings @pdnRPH
Welcome back to the Forum.
The MB has two M.2 SSD sockets. So I am guessing the "D" drive is an M.2 drive.
You have an intermittent problem. Intermittent problems can be very difficult to diagnose.
Have you tried reseating the problem drive in the M.2 socket?
I don't think it is a BIOS problem; the drive either works all of the time or the drive does not work at all. You could have a flakey M.2 drive or a flakey M.2 socket, a chipset problem, or a MB PCIe lane wiring problem.
Is it possible for you to test this M.2 drive in a different PC to see how it goes?
Or try a different, known good, M.2 drive in the second M.2 socket. This is the only way I can think of to see if the dive is faulty or the M.2 socket is faulty (MB hardware problem).
I don't think a HP Care Pack will help in your situation if you installed the second M.2 drive unless you can prove the MB M.2 socket has problems.
I am pretty sure HP Care Packs only cover the factory components.
I don't think you have a W11 problem. You could try a non-destructive W11 in place upgrade.
Watch the video and follow all steps indicated at this Microsoft Site to do an in place upgrade.

Microsoft's comments were: D is not showing up after a second shutdown and a restart, try the following steps: 1. Press Windows + X and select Disk Management. 2. From the menu bar, select Action and then Rescan disks. 3. Wait for the rescan progress to complete and check if the D drive is now showing up1. If the issue persists, consider checking the BIOS settings and seeking further assistance.
That's why I added them.
The 2nd drive was installed upon setup by BestBuy Geek squad. Always worked until 23H2, and I seemed to resolve it as it went with 23H2, and now that 24H2 has arrived, I am in trouble again. I am not a hardware man so I don't know what M.2 SSD sockets are.
Western Digital is suggesting either Windows 11 OS OR I need a new BIOS.
And, of course the Care Pack could look at the whole system and see what's up. If I could fix it once, why can't I fix it again?
Also, I have used the Update Repair 24H2 two times to resolve it, and it keeps haunting me.
Either a hardware man or a Microsoft OS man or a BIOS engineer needs to address it, and of course along with HP.

Greetings @pdnRPH
This Site has the only BIOS update I could find for your MB. i don't know if doing this update will help.
As previously stated: an M.2 BIOS setting may either enable the M.2 socket or disable this socket. Or possibly change the amount of PCIe lanes being used.
The intermittent problem you are seeing using W11 24H2 could be a Windows problem if the drive worked correctly using older W11 versions. 24H2 was having a problem with some M.2 drives, I don't recall if Western Digital was involved.
Did you check Western Digital for a possible firmware update for your drive?
Can you try this WD M.2 drive in a different PC or try a different brand M.2 drive in the HP PC?

Thank you Bill,
I do have the latest BIOS update, F.20. WD sent me a small software to check the drives and see if firmware. No firmware for either one. I did run the Windows Update Repair 2 days ago, and I did the rescan disks action in Disk management. I have gone to only shutdown at night and restart in the morning, and for 2 days now the D drive is showing. I'm hoping.... Paul

I have quit doing Hibernate and only shutdown at late night; therefore reboot in the morning. Inconvenient, but D storage is there. So be it.
I believe we need a new BIOS.
We also need new network drivers and Bluetooth and sound and chipset and... and we get none. Too bad.
I have 4 other computers, and all those drivers several times this year and new BIOS two times. HP need to get with the program-- with Windows 11 updates and driver needs.
