Microsoft Windows 8.1 (32-bit)

Poor daughter was trying to help and she accidentally wiped the hard drive. When we try to turn it on black screen, blue box. Inside blue box states no operating system found. Ie: wiped out windows.  It came with windows 8, she had updated to windows 10 a while b4 the "incident". Out of warranty (of course) any ideas? Or are we just buying windows 10?

Hi:

You can reinstall W10 for free as follows...

Make a bootable USB drive using the media creation tool at the link below.

You want the W10 64 bit installation media.  HP hasn't made PC's with 32 bit operating systems in years.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

When you get to the part of the installation process that asks 'Where do you want to install Windows,' delete every partition on the hard drive, leaving just one partition of unallocated space, click Next, and W10 should install.

If you are asked to enter a product key during the installation process, select the 'I don't have a product key' option and W10 will install and automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.

After W10 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your PC's support page, if applicable.

We dont have anything to make a recovery disk from at this time.... any suggestions? Or any ideas of an inexpensive place to purchase it?

P.s. thank you for your recommendation though,  I'll ask friends if anyone can assist.

You're very welcome.

What is the full model number or product number of the PC?

Use this guide to find that information.   Recovery kits are model-specific.
