I have a dead primary disk drive and I want to replace it with an exact duplicate model (Seagate ST31000524AS) and reload my version of Windows (7 Home Premium x64). Unfortunately, the system recovery disks I produced a couple years ago have gone AWOL. I went to Microsoft's ISO download site and input my product key, found at the bottom of my unit. They told me that since this was an installation done by the manufacturer, then I needed to contact the manufacturer, in this case HP. I did that, and since my unit is out of warranty, I was shuffled here to try and find a solution.
How can I achieve my aims? Is it even possible? I have an earlier forum item I have tried to follow, and it doesn't get me anywhere to find ANY download, let alone the one I need. Link: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/Hard-drive-dead-reinstalling-OS...
I appreciate any and all attempts to help me out here. Thanks in advance!

Hi,
Try this site for the original HP recovery disks. $27

Thanks Dave, hope this does the trick. Now I just need to wait a few days for snail mail to deliver the goods. I was mildly disappointed the site didn't offer instant download as an option, but, as they say, beggars cannot be choosers.
Thanks again!! 😄

I'm getting a Smart hard drive failure imminent message. HP dv7 is still working, how can I create Windows 7 installation usb drive or disks so I can install Windows 7 on a new hard drive. Note the PAPER label on the bottom of the laptop is worn and not readable. I did make a HP System Repair Disk, but have never used it. Will that install Windows 7? I also have something I labeled HP Recovery Disc (Image). I see cyberlink software won't let me make another image. Why is this so **bleep** difficult?
