I am not sure if this is the correct discussion board, but I suspect my issue has to do with my operating system.   Until a few months ago, I was using the printing and scanning functions of my printer quite regularly.  However, I put my printer into storage (it was not damaged) and then when I moved to my new apartment I printed one document on my current operating update of MacOS, but when I went to use the scanner and then later went to print, I get errors like "USB not connected to computer" and when I uninstalled all of the software and printer from my Mac and then reuploaded, I tried downloading the full driver and got the error "update can't be installed on this disk this volume does not meet the requirements for this update".  I am starting work and school next week and I need to be able to print and scan, and while it does all me to send a document to the printer, the queue is immediately deleted, so I cannot print, and it does not give me the option to scan.  I don't know if my uninstalling everything screwed it up, but that is what the troubleshooting said to do as I was getting "You do not have permission to open HP Scanner 3".  I am so confused and I volunteered to do something for my new employer which requires scanning a picture and inserting the jpeg into a document, and I cannot do it.  After spending the last three hours on this, I am turning it over to the community and I hope someone can make sense of this.

Got a smart-phone with a camera? If so, take a picture of the document, and then E-mail the picture to yourself, as an attachment. Open your E-mail, and save the attachment. Paste the attachment into the document.

Also, got another computer (or a friend with a laptop computer) to which you can temporarily connect your scanner, to see if it works when connected "elsewhere" ?

I ended up doing the smartphone trick in the end, however, I do not have access to another laptop at the moment, so I have no way of determining if this will work.  I still need to be able to print and scan before next week as I start classes and homework needs to be printed out and submitted in person.

Can you save the homework as a PDF, copy the PDF to a USB memory-stick, and take the USB memory-stick to school, and use one of the school's computers to attach the memory-stick, and print onto the school's printer?

Thank you for your help.  I got the printer working finally.  Had to completely clear my cache, but now it is printing and scanning.  Thanks for your help.
