So, my friend and I were playing a game(The Forest, if it helps)on his brand new PC, and seconds after he entered the world, the PC froze, and then we got a blue screen with the code name: BAD POOL HEADER
I googled it, but I didn't understand muchh of what I saw. Can you help me please? I suspect it may be a drivers related issue, but I have a hard time updating them, because I don't which to pick and in what order should I install them...Thanks in advance

@Catalôncio,

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand you are having issues with playing games on your new HP Desktop. No worries, I'll be glad to help you.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you recently made any software or hardware changes before the issue started?

Have you tried to update the drivers? Or have you tried to update the Bios

Are you able to play other games such as online or from the computer?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Perform a Hard reset on Desktop PC

Many startup errors and other problems can be resolved by decreasing the amount of power stored in hardware components. Decreasing stored power is sometimes referred to as a "Hard Reset". Use the following steps to perform a hard reset on a computer:

  1. If Windows is open, click Start and then Shutdown.

    If Windows is not open and the computer has power, press and hold the power button on the computer until the computer shuts off.

  2. With the power off, disconnect the power cord from the back of the computer.

  3. With the power off and the power cord disconnected, press the power button on the computer for 5 seconds. The power light indicator on or near the power button might turn on briefly but then go out.

  4. Reconnect the power cord and turn on the power.

Next thing, I would suggest here is to uninstall the display drivers from device manager:

Right-Click on start button> click device manager> Display adapters>then select the display drivers and right-click on it and uninstall the graphics drivers.

Please check the box that says “delete the software for this device”.

Now restart the computer and then update the Bios, Chipset and graphics card drivers on your PC from our HP support website, using this link.

Also, download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.

Refer this link to know how to use HP support assistant.

If you have followed the steps suggested and still having the issue, I would suggest you try these steps here:

Right-click your desktop background and select NVIDIA Control Panel. You can also find this tool by performing a Start menu (or Start screen) search for NVIDIA Control Panel or by right-clicking the NVIDIA icon in your system tray and selecting Open NVIDIA Control Panel.

To quickly set a system-wide preference, you could use the Adjust image settings with the preview option. For example, if you have old hardware that struggles to play the games you want to play, you may want to select “Use my preference emphasizing” and move the slider all the way to “Performance.” This trades graphics quality for an increased frame rate.

By default, the “Use the advanced 3D image settings” option is selected. You can select Manage 3D settings and change advanced settings for all programs on your computer or just for specific games. NVIDIA keeps a database of the optimal settings for various games, but you’re free to tweak individual settings here. Just mouse-over an option for an explanation of what it does.

If you have a laptop with NVIDIA Optimus technology — that is, both NVIDIA and Intel graphics — this is the same place you can choose which applications will use the NVIDIA hardware and which will use the Intel hardware.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Eagerly waiting for your response!

I hope you have a good day ahead,

And Feel free to ask your queries as this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.

First of all, thanks for helping. Currently, I can't tell you much as I only see my friend and his PC on fridays, but I can tell you he didn't make any hardware changes, as he only the computer on wednesday.
I don't know about software changes, maybe he did some, maybe he didn't...
He didn't have much programs installed, just some basic ones, and a few games. He had been playing Fortnite and he told me that the PC had already crashed twice. Then we tried playing The Forest and he got a blue screen with the mentioned code name, which by the way, got stuck on 100%.
I'll see what I can do on friday, and then I'll tell you something.
I don't like installing drivers and updating the BIOS, maybe it's easy and simple, but that may mess up something and I don't want that, however, that HP support center may be helpful. By what I understood, it updates drivers automatically right?
Hope I was able to give some more information.
Thank you so much for helping me.

@Catalôncio,

Thank you for replying,
Please take your time and get back to me with the results,
I'll be awaiting your response and would be glad to help.

Answering to your question regarding installing the drivers and updating the Bio, You are in fact correct, the computer is set to automatic update, so when ever there is an update available either from Windows update or from HP, it will notify you and then you can go ahead and install it.

Since you have mentioned that you are having issues while playing games and that too on a new computer. I would suggest the steps suggested in the previous post should help you resolve this issue.

Feel free to post your query for any other assistance as well,
It's been a pleasure interacting with you and I hope you have a good day ahead.

@Jeet_singh

Just one more thing before friday.
This may be the source of the problem: Before he launched Steam to play the game, a driver update notification appeared on the bottom right corner(I don't know from which app), but he ignored it as he wanted to play it as soon as possible.
Could that lead to a crash?
Thank you for helping me
