Hello Markarogers,

Thank you for posting your concern,

Troubleshooting Power Issues on HP Z2 Tower G5 Workstation

If your HP Z2 Tower G5 Workstation is not starting up due to power issues, there are several steps you can undertake to diagnose and potentially resolve the issue:

  1. Check Power Source:

    • Ensure that the power cable is securely connected to both the workstation and a working electrical outlet.
    • Try plugging another device into the same outlet to confirm that the outlet is functional.
    • If possible, try using a different power cable to rule out cable issues.
  2. Inspect Power Supply Unit (PSU):

    • Check the PSU for any signs of damage or faults. Some HP workstations have a PSU LED indicator that can show its status. If a light is present, see if it is on or blinking and what pattern the blinking follows.
  3. Power Button and LED Indicators:

    • Verify if any lights are present on the computer when you attempt to power it on. This can include LED lights on the power button or front panels.
    • If there are any beep codes or flashing lights, they can help diagnose what the issue might be based on the patterns.
  4. Try a Power Reset:

    • Disconnect the power cable and any peripherals from the unit.
    • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to discharge any residual power.
    • Reconnect the power cable and attempt to power the workstation on again.
  5. Check for Internal Component Issues:

    • Ensure all internal components (RAM, HDD/SSD, GPU, and other expansion cards) are properly seated in their slots.
    • Sometimes reseating RAM or disconnecting any new hardware or peripherals can resolve power-on issues.
  6. Check for Physical Damage:

    • Look for any visible signs of damage to the workstation, especially around the power supply, cables, and connectors.
  7. Test with Minimum Configuration:

    • Remove or disconnect extra components or peripherals leaving only essential components (CPU, one stick of RAM, no peripherals). This can help isolate the cause of the problem.
  8. Check CMOS Battery:

    • Ensure the CMOS battery is seated properly and replace it if there is any suspicion it might be drained. A drained CMOS battery can sometimes cause power issues.
  9. Seek Professional Assistance:

    • If none of the above steps work, there may be an internal hardware failure that could require professional repair. Contact HP Support or visit an authorized service center for further diagnostics and repair.

If you're still experiencing issues even after these steps, reaching out to HP Support for professional assistance would be a good step toward resolution. They can provide guidance tailored to your workstation’s specific configuration and history.
