After I updated my new computer with windows 11, only 4 of 25 total desktop icons appeared on my desktop computer screen.  Where did they go?  I thought all of my icons should have transferred to my new device.  I need help to get those lost icons back on my desktop!

Thanks

Vince

Greetings @Jabo2024

Welcome to the HP Forum.

A major Windows feature update offered by Windows Update and performed within the existing Windows operating system should preserve user settings and installed software.

I can't say what is happening using the info you are providing. It is possible to lose: user settings and installed programs when doing a user initiated Windows: reset or a refresh. A Windows update is generally non-destructive.

You would have to redo the Desktop shortcuts (if possible) to installed programs if you created them prior to the Windows update.

My thoughts may be off base. Not sure as to what has occurred.

Regards
