HP Envy 27-B105NA

My all in one computer won't turn on this evening. Have tried switching off , unplugging ,turning back on etc.  It is dead although the tiny light is on where the mains cable is plugged in.  Was working fine before. Help !

@Susie-57

Most likely, the PC is experiencing a major hardware failure.

If you CAN, to find out the problem, you would need to be able run hardware diagnostics by pressing the Esc key repeatedly and then, when the HP Startup Menu appears, select Diagnostics (usually F2) and let it run.

If you can NOT do that, or if that does not work, then there is NOTHING more you can do by yourself -- and there is NOTHING we can do because we have no way of accessing your PC from here to run diagnostics or repair hardware.

You will need to have the PC physically examined in a service facility by folks that can run their own diagnostics to determine what is wrong with it.

--------------------
If your PC is still under the original one-year HP warranty, or if you have purchased an extended warranty from HP and this is still valid, then having HP do this is an inexpensive option for you. In that case, you should contact HP Customer Support to see about having it repaired or replaced under warranty.

To contact HP Support see the following link to create yourself a case number, then call and it may help speed up the call process:

Step 1. Here is the link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp
Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect
Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"
Step 4. Scroll down and click on: HP contact options - click on Get phone number

Case number and phone number appear.
--------------------
If your PC is no longer under warranty, then it will cost you up front to have HP examine your PC. If you want to do that, you will have to contact an HP Repair or Service Center to see if they can examine the PC to determine the cause(s) of the problems, if it can be repaired, and an estimate of the repair costs.

You didn't describe how you powered it on or off, so try this:

Hold the power button down for 5 seconds and release it, then count to 10, then press-and-release the power button.

I switched off the mains . Pressed the on/off switch for up to 15 seconds as advised by hp on their web. I then turned it back on ,  held down the switch on button for few seconds , but computer still dead. There is electricity going into the computer as the little light is lit. Could it be there is a fault with the on/off switch ?

I have tried everything suggested by hp on their website . The computer is not responding at all although the little light is on when plugged in.

You would not believe the amount of little things that can cause that.

It can be an OSD setting(on screen display)

It can be something plugged into the computer.

It can be lack of power, light switch turned off, power strip switch flipped off, etc

It can be that there's something on the screen but it's out of focus or brightness is turned down.

It can be the display settings.

Check everything twice and then do it again 🙂

Stay calm, shut it down, unplug everything,  then plug in the mouse and keyboard, then plug the main power cord back in and the other end of the power cord back into a known working socket or surge protector and turn the computer back on.

If it doesn't boot up for you let me know, we'll try the next steps in order.

Could it be a major problem? Yes.

Is it usually? Nope.

While we're at it, press the Windows key and the P key at the same time and see if anything pops up.

Still nothing , not turning on and no sound . I will take it in for repair.

Thanks anyway.
