Recently purchased HP Desktop 27cr0xxx.It goes into sleep mode ? after sitting unused for an hour or so with the monitor light fading on and off and often will not wake up so I need to manually turn off then on again. This forced turning off can't be ideal?
I tried the suggestion of quickly turning off which worked once but not subsequently.

Hi @MG219,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
You're right, having to manually power off your new HP Desktop 27-cr0xxx because it won’t wake from sleep mode is not ideal and could potentially lead to data loss or hardware stress over time.
Here’s how to fix it:
1. Enable Devices to Wake the Computer
Sometimes, the keyboard or mouse isn't allowed to wake the system from sleep.
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Keyboards and Mice, and other pointing devices.
- Right-click each device > Properties > Power Management tab.
- Check “Allow this device to wake the computer”.
- Click OK.
2. Update Windows and HP Drivers
Outdated drivers or firmware can cause sleep/wake issues.
- Go to Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.
- Also visit HP Support to update BIOS and chipset drivers: 👉 HP PCs - Sleep and Hibernate issues in Windows 10 | HP® Support
3. Change Power Settings
Adjust sleep behavior to avoid deep sleep states.
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
- Select your current plan > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings.
- Expand Sleep > Allow hybrid sleep → Set to Off.
- Expand PCI Express > Link State Power Management → Set to Off.
- Click Apply and OK.
4. Perform a Hard Reset
If the system is stuck, a hard reset can help:
- Shut down the PC.
- Unplug the power cable.
- Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the power and turn it on.

I hope this helps.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
