Install newly purchased DVD Drive.

when I turned desktop on, error light (red), five (5) beeps and fan will not turn off.  Screen is blank.

Bought new DVD drive because the installed DVD wouldn't read DVD's.

please help.  Thank you.

Hi:

 

5 beeps, red flashing power led light = memory error of some kind.

 

I recommend the following troubleshooting steps in this order...

 

1.  Remove and firmly reseat all of the memory modules.

 

If that fails to work...

 

2. Test each memory module one at a time in the primary memory slot (black) closest to the processor.

 

If the PC still beeps 5 times after testing each single memory module and you did not just replace the memory, most likely the motherboard has failed and needs to be replaced.

 

See the troubleshooting guide below, Appendix A, page 53.

Hey! I did as you suggested and it worked! Thank you so much, honestly! Just took out memory strips, ensured all connections tight, cleaned connections with alcohol, replaced.
Installed new software and things are working very, very well.
