My computer doesn't see the external drive that I cloned to. It disappeared after I cloned.  What should I do?

Hello

what do you means I cloned. Which software did you use ?

considering that you have only 1 disk installed inside the PC , with the external disk connected to the PC , do these steps:

  • open a CMD prompt Windows as Administrator
  • execute DISKPART (press Enter)
  • when you get diskpart prompt , type:    list disk
  • check how many disk you see.
    • you should see the disk installed inside the PC, named disk 0
    • external disk, if recognized by the system , should be listed as disk 1

example from my computer:

N. disk  Status  Dimension    Available      Din  GPT
-------- -----   --------     ------------- ----- ---
Disk 0   Online    931 Gbytes   0 byte             *
Disk 1   Online   7452 Gbytes   0 byte             *
Disk 2   Online    465 Gbytes   1024 Kbytes
Disk 3   Online   3726 Gbytes   0 byte             *

if disk 1 exist  check if there is a * under the column GPT

then , continue with following steps

  • sel disk 1   (this select the disk)
  • list part    (this show disk 1  partitions)

if disk 1 and partitions are there and GPT column is WITHOUT a  *

execute:   uniqueid disk id=12345678

if disk 1 and partitions are there and GPT column has a  *

execute:   uniqueid disk id=8F48F36C-8A88-4881-9EE3-5A23B0842DA0

then, type : exit

now you have to disconnect and reconnect the external USB disk and see if the system find it.

bye
