I put a disk on the disk drive and thought I had secured it on the flimsy snap holder, but when I pushed the DV drive into the computer, the disk fell off the holder, presumably into the computer itself.,

Click on Optical Drive.

You may/will need to open the CD.

If you have a jewelers screw driver set it works best.

To better assist you, we would need the exact model number or product number of your laptop/desktop???

It has no tower; all the computer works are in the screen.  The disk drive is a rather wobbly thing that pops out from the side,  and you have to secure the disk on a middle plastic "gear."  Apparently, I did not have the disk properly attached, and when I pushed the disk door back into the computer, the disk fell out, presumably into the depths of the computer.

I can still run other disks on the computer, so apparently the first disk fell far enough inside that it does not impede the working of the disk drive.
