Hi @Granners,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP printer is having issues with double-sided (duplex) printing, such as failing after two pages or reporting that the printer is busy, there are several troubleshooting steps you can follow to resolve the problem. This issue can be caused by driver problems, firmware issues, or even network and software settings.

1. Check Printer Driver and Firmware

Update Printer Driver:

  • Mac: Go to the HP Support website and search for drivers for your specific printer model. Download and install the latest driver for macOS.
  • iOS Devices: Ensure your HP printer is using the latest driver available through the HP Smart app.

Update Firmware:

  • Check for firmware updates for your printer on the HP Support website. Firmware updates can fix bugs and improve functionality.

2. Check Printer Settings

  • Default Settings:
    • Ensure your printer is set to use double-sided printing by default. You can check and adjust these settings in the printer’s preferences:
      • On Mac: Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, select your printer, and click Options & Supplies > Options. Look for duplex settings and ensure they are enabled.
      • In HP Smart App: Open the HP Smart app, select your printer, and go to Print Settings or Printer Preferences to adjust duplex settings.

3. Check Print Job Settings

  • Print Dialog Box:
    • Ensure that you select the double-sided printing option each time you print. In the print dialog box, look for options like “Two-Sided” or “Duplex” printing.

4. Troubleshoot Printer

Reset Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source for 60 seconds. Plug it back in and turn it on.

Check for Jams or Errors:

  • Ensure there are no paper jams or other errors in the printer that might be causing issues with duplex printing.

5. Test Different Document Types

  • Simple Documents:
    • Try printing simple text documents to see if the issue persists. This helps determine if the problem is with specific types of documents or content.

6. Use HP Smart App

  • HP Smart App Settings:
    • If using the HP Smart app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, ensure you have the latest version. Open the app and check the print settings to ensure duplex printing is configured correctly.

7. Check Network Connection

  • Wi-Fi and Network Issues:
    • Ensure your printer and devices are on the same network. If there are connectivity issues, it might cause print jobs to fail.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
